THREE SESSION WORKSHOPS

Witnessing Glassmaking through the History of Civilization
Course Fee: $300

Class Size Limit: 20
Class time will be divided into two parts. Student will attend weekly lectures that will consist of a brief history of the chosen civilization being discussed, including socio-political factors that effected artistic styles and development. The artistic and utilitarian glass-work that evolved from this period of history will be looked at and analyzed within their contexts, and the techniques that were developed will be discussed. The second half of the class takes place when the students then move to the demonstration studios and observe the faculty members recreating one or more examples of the cited glass work, remaining as faithful as possible to the techniques that were originally used to create the pieces. As there will be no attendance cap to this lecture class, students will attend as observers only, without the option of creating work of their own during class time. You may take one, two or 3 sessions, 3 hours each.First session: Core forming/cameo. Second session: Birth of glassblowing/Basic vessel.
