Flame Working Sampler

This course will introduce flame working at a stationary bench torch. This beginner class is the best way to enjoy the excitement of melting the glass in the torch while making your very own piece. You will experience putting the melted glass on the mandrel, controlling, shaping, and sculpting it to produce colorful beads. The course is intended to briefly introduce flame work to the student for further consideration.

Flame Working: Animals

Learn to sculpt a variety of animals with either Moretti or Boroscilicate glass at a stationary bench torch. After a discussion of studio set-up and safety, demonstrations will introduce students to the use of heat and gravity to shape molten glass. Techniques for applying color and manipulating the form will be practiced. By the end of the class you will have created several pieces.

Using either Moretti or Borosilicate glass, we will learn how to make several styles of marbles, such as complex twists, raked designs, and paperweight-style encased flowers. We will also learn techniques for encasing marbles in clear for a magnifying effect, and make glass stands for you to proudly display your creations.

Using Borosilicate glass, students will learn to shape and mold a variety of objects, including flowers, at a stationary bench torch. Sculptures will then be cased in clear glass to produce a pendant. The instructor will demonstrate techniques and then assist as each student works.

This hands-on flame working course covers the basics of shaping colorful glass in the flame of a stationary propane/oxygen torch. There will be a discussion of studio set-up and safety, followed by periodic demonstrations and plenty of practice time. Throughout the day, we will create beads, glass pendants and marbles.

This workshop will focus on blowing Borosilicate glass at the torch. After teacher demonstration and explanation, students will proceed individually with work time. The teacher will assist with one on one attention. Learn how to blow hollow forms, add color, and sculpt.

In this introductory class, you will learn how to make beautiful glass beads on a mandrel. You will use soft Moretti glass to build these colorful glass pieces. After a discussion of studio set-up and safety, demonstrations will introduce students to the use of heat and gravity to shape molten glass. Demonstrations will alternate with working time. Dot application, marvering, stringers, annealing and bead cleaning will all be covered.

This two-day continuing Moretti course will cover intermediate techniques including buttons, hollows, and small sculpture. You will develop working with punties and a variety of accessory glass applications. Through a series of class demonstrations, discussion and hands on practice you will further your skills at the torch

This course will focus on lamp work bead making using a flame and soft glass to make one-of-a-kind glass beads and objects. As a class, we will explore beginning to intermediate techniques through demonstrations, practice sessions, and discussions. Troubleshooting common mistakes and difficulties will also be part of the course. One primary focus throughout this class will be the study of heat.

You will learn the basics of manipulating hot glass with a stationary gas/oxygen torch. Among other topics we will explore shapes, hollows, and surface decoration. The instructor will demonstrate these techniques and then turn it over to you for hands-on experience. You will be able to make beads, marbles, pendants, vessels, sculptures and much more. Tools and supplies are provided. No previous experience necessary.

This three week class will advance your skill and knowledge of flameworking techniques and tools. New techniques to decorate your pieces : transferring images to the glass, cane and murrini and other special effects.
