ONE SESSION WORKSHOPS

Fused Glass Sampler
Course Fee: $50

Class size limit: 9
This course will introduce flat glass and kiln forming. This beginner class is the best way to enjoy the excitement of crafting cold glass while making your very own piece. You will experience cutting glass, arranging colors and shapes, and finish with fused pendants. The course is intended to briefly introduce flat glass work to the student for further consideration.

Fused Glass Pendants
Course Fee: $150

This class will introduce you to the basic principals behind forming glass in the kiln to create beautiful fused glass pendants. You will be introduced to all of the tools, basic glass cutting and kiln forming theory. When these one of a kind pieces come out of the kiln a Diablo staff member will attach a sterling silver bail by which to hang your pieces. NO EXPERIENCE NECESSARY.

Glass Judaica Class: Menorahs, Seder and Challah Plates
Course Fee: $150

Class size limit: 10
Fused glass Menorahs, Seder and Challah plates make great presents and family air looms, which will be treasured for years to come. This introductory class will discuss kiln forming theory, color application and a discussion about how Judaic artists have been using kiln formed glass to create these traditional forms. Using precut elements, you will assemble a piece of glass to be fused and then slumped into your chosen form: a Menorah, Seder or Challah plate. Your pieces will be ready to be picked up one week after the class.

TWO SESSION WORKSHOPS

One-day or Two-day Course
Course Fee: $150 one-day or $250 two-day


Class size limit: 9
This course will introduce you to the process of applying photographic quality images to glass. You may choose to take a one or two day class.

Day one (3 Hours): You will learn how to transfer an image to resist and then to flat glass. The glass can be sand blasted and paradise paints can be applied. Examples of imagery can include logos, text, hand drawn imagery, or even old family photographs.

Day two (3 hours): The flat glass pieces from Day 1 can be Picked up and blown out into vessels in the hot shop. If the student has no experience in blowing the teacher or the assistant will do the process and make the vessel to the students needs.

Fused Glass 101
Course Fee: $290

In this two-day workshop, using colorful pieces of glass, including glass powders and frits, students will learn to design several necklace pendants, coasters, ornaments, sun catchers, tiles and a fused and slumped plate or bowl. This class will introduce you to the basic principles behind forming glass in the kiln to create beautiful fused glass pieces. You will be introduced to all of the tools, basic glass cutting and kiln forming theory, as well as tack-fusing. No experience necessary.

Fused Glass 202

This class is for the experienced fuser who is looking to get their hands into the kiln. There will be a series of exercises, which will require high temperatures and hands on manipulation. Color bars and drop through, will be covered, to create one of a kind glass pieces. These colorful elements will then be included in a series of fused and slumped pieces. The goal is to leave with pieces that share a visual language through form and color. Materials included. Extra glass available for sale.

As a continuation of the previous class, this class will hone in your skills as a fuser. Again we will be working with high temperatures and hands on manipulation. Advanced pot melts and racking will be covered to create unique pieces.

Dinner Ware: Plate Making
Course Fee: $260

This introduction to kiln forming guides students through the process of creating the most traditional fused glass form: the plate. Students will learn basic kiln forming theory, design and color applications. Day two basic cutting techniques will be covered such as straight lines and curves. NO EXPERIENCE NECESSARY.

Fusing with Iridescent Glass & Decorative Etching
Course Fee: $150

Class size limit: 8
In this exciting new class you’ll learn the basics of 3 glass techniques: fusing, glass etching (sandblasting) and slumping. Create a bowl or a plate made with iridescent glass, decorated with sandblasting etching. See attached pictures for stunning effects and patterns. First: create a fused piece with iridescent glass. Second: apply a resist onto the piece and cut out a design. Sandblast the glass piece. Third: Remove the resist and slump your glass on a mold to fire-polish the surface and shape it into a three dimensional object.

FOUR SESSION WORKSHOPS

Kiln Forming 1: Fusing and Slumping
Course Fee: $260

Class size limit: 9
This four week class is an excellent overview to the world of kiln formed glass. Kiln forming is a process by which glass is assembled, put into a kiln, and heated in a controlled manner to achieve a wide range of effects. There will be discussions about kiln forming theory, color theory, design and pattern. You will learn how to cut straight lines, curves, and circles. The exercises will cover kiln carving, fusing, slumping and some painterly effects. You will have many study pieces and two finished pieces, which will bring the techniques you learned together. No experience necessary.

Kiln Forming 2: Getting into the Kiln

This class is for the experienced fuser who is looking to get their hands into the kiln. There will be a series of exercises, which will require high temperatures and hands on manipulation. Vitrograph, color bars, drop through, and raking, will be covered, to create one of a kind glass pieces. These colorful elements will then be included in a series of fused and slumped pieces. The goal is to leave with two finished pieces that share a visual language through form and color.Materials included. Extra Bullseye glass available for sale.
