The glass paperweight is the first step for anyone interested in working with hot glass. This introductory class guides the first time glass artist through the most crucial skills. In a fun and informative manner, our experienced instructors will introduce you to tools, safety and basic glass theory. You will learn how to gather glass from the furnace, then how to shape and control it, and how to apply color to the glass. Every student will leave with a gorgeous handmade paperweight and a strong foundation for future exploration. |

Glassblowing 101: Make your own Drinking Glass

This two-day introduction to glassblowing will guide the first time student and students looking to brush-up on their skills, through the fundamentals of gathering glass from the furnace, vocabulary, tools, and safety. You will start with Diablo's core exercises: the paperweight. Then the class will be introduced to the blown bubble through a series of demonstrations and hands-on exercises. Students will then apply the color and blowing techniques learned to create their very own colorful drinking glass. |

This continuing workshop will expand on the skills learned in Glassblowing 101. Our knowledgeable instructors will begin with a series of demonstrations to refresh your technical memory and then you will move into practicing your bubble skills. Students will learn how to gather more glass and control it using a series of blocks and instruments. Then students will learn Swedish glassblowing techniques to create larger pieces with a variety of color applications. New color techniques such as color mixing, body raps, and raking will be introduced. Students will apply the skills learned to create beautiful glass vessels, while gaining a stronger understanding of how to control the glass to create artistically colorful pieces. |

First, you will learn Diablo's core exercise: the paperweight. After the paperweight exercises teaches you how to gather, form and control glass, you will be introduced to the blown bubble. With these fundamentals skills you will learn how to make beautiful glasses and small vessels. |

Introdution to Hot Glass Sculpture

This course is designed to give students an introduction to hot glass sculpture. Through a series of demonstrations and hands-on practice, students will explore the use of different punties, torches, bit work and color application to create beautiful glass sculptures. Students will be encouraged to think creatively, with a strong emphasis on teamwork as well as collaborative thought. |

Glassblowing 3 - Jury Acceptance
Class size limit: 9
Diablo Glass School is proud to offer an extended glassblowing course with Master Glassblower Chris Watts. This intensive study will enliven your creativity and sharpen your technique. This course will review your foundations and go on to blow thinner, faster and hotter. Color overlay and cane, goblets, cut and fused rollups and blowing large are some of the themes in this new series. The class is specifically designed for experienced glassblowers that have been working with glass for several years. This 12-week course is divided into three four-week segments. Demonstrations and class discussions will alternate with plenty of working time. One new theme will be covered every four weeks and students are welcome to apply for the whole course or just a fragment. |
